Spiritual Direction
What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction, also known as spiritual accompaniment, is a process of reflection and deep listening for the spirit or true self. In a spiritual direction session, the spiritual director (or companion) will ask questions, listen deeply and help you more clearly discern how the spirit or true self speaks to you and where it is guiding you. The process can also involve providing guidance on possible avenues of exploration such as books to read or spiritual practices to try.
My Spiritual Direction practice focuses on the spiritual care of people who are LGBTQIA+, adopted, have experienced trauma, community organizers, clergy, and/or people who have complex spiritual lives that don’t fit easily into a box. I am committed to collective liberation and want to support movement work by providing care to people working for liberation. My understandings of liberation are rooted in liberation theology, abolition movements, and healing justice.
As a trained spiritual director, I journey with you by listening to your story and experiences with an ear for the movement of the spirit, the presence of the sacred, and/or the insights that come from making deep meaningful connections. By offering supportive responses as appropriate and encouraging deepening reflection, clients can open up to new understandings and paths of growth. While spiritual direction is a one-on-one relationship, it is not a substitute for therapy or mental health care. Spiritual accompaniment is typically conducted in monthly sessions that range from 45 - 60 minutes.
